Es ist einer von noch ca. 25 weltweit existierenden Mactra-Modellen und der einzige Terra Mactra in Europa!
Insgesamt wurden nach unterschiedlichen Quellen nur knapp 450-500 Fahrzeuge in Neuseeland produziert. Das Fahrzeug wird oft als "VW Terra" bezeichnet, was aber so nicht richtig ist. Vielmehr ist der Terra Mactra das Produkt kleiner Firmen, die auf Basis des VW Käfer in den 50er und 60er Jahren Kleinserien bauten. Der Grund hierfür war der Bedarf an robusten, billigen Farmerautos in Neuseeland. So wurden etwa 450 verschiedene Modelle in den unterschiedlichsten Ausführungen gebaut.

Der Erbauer ist in der VW Szene bekannt, möchte aber weder persönlich noch seine Firma genannt werden. Er hat diesem Wagen in Neuseeland suchen lassen und nach Deutschland importiert und dann umfangreich restauriert und für ein 1/4 Meilen-Rennen aufgebaut. Einfach mal bei Google "Terra Mactra" eingeben und auf Bildersuche klicken. Dann seht ihr eine Menge Bilder von der Fertigstellung und Restaurierung des Fahrzeuges.
Zudem hat der Terra auf der VolksWorld 2014 den Preis der Top20 Fahrzeuge gewonnen.
Der für das 1/4 Meilen-Rennen verwendete Motor hätte in Kombination mit dem Terra keine Chance auf eine Zulassung in Deutschland gehabt, sodass ein nahezu neuer 44-PS-Industrie-Motor von Volkswagen seinen Platz im Terra eingenommen hat, womit der Wagen recht flink ist und immer noch die Blicke auf sich zieht!
Wenn Kinder auf dem Spielplatz aufhören zu spielen und mit großen Augen und offenen Mündern Dich anschauen, antworte ich gerne in ihre fragenden Augen mit den Worten "Den habe ich mir aus Lego selber gebaut" und ernte auch von den anwesenden Eltern ein Lachen. Würde ich bei jedem Blickkontakt mit Daumen nach oben nur einen Euro bekommen, müsste ich kein Benzin mehr selbst zahlen.
Apropos Verbrauch: der Terra verbraucht bei zügiger Fahrweise knapp 8-10 Liter und mit dem 25 Liter Renntank ist die Reichweite von 250 bis 290 km auf der OCC-Küstentrophy praktisch umgesetzt worden.
Die Rechtssteuerung (typisch für Neuseeland) macht Spaß und ist sehr leicht zu fahren. Der Wagen verfügt über einen Überrollkäfig (einfach bei Google „terra mactra“ und „tubes“ bei der Bildersuche eingeben), Sportstoßdämpfer in Verbindung mit den runtergedrehten Dreshtäben ein sportliches "Keilfahrwerk" und einen Spezialkrümmer mit Sportendtopf. den gesamten Aufbau findet ihr bebildert in einem Blog des Erbauers und könnt euch durchklicken. Dazu einfach bei Google „Terra Mactra“ eingeben und sich in der Bildersuche durchklicken.
Eine Körpergröße von 1,80m ist die maximale Größe, die ich empfehlen möchte, ansonsten wird der Gang danach "buckelig" und Quasimodo bekäme Konkurrenz bei der Herzenseroberung von "Esmeralda".
Beim Ein- und Aussteigen wirkt der Fahrer wie ein Riese und wenn das "Recken und Strecken" unmittlebar folgt, hat man wieder das Lächeln der Zuschauer auf sich...ja "Zuschauer" ist hier das richtige Wort, denn der Terra sorgt immer für voll Aufmerksamkeit auf Oldtimer-Ausfahrten und im normalen "Stadtbild". Wer also introvertiert ist und KEINE Gespräche mit wildfremden Menschen haben möchte, sollte sich einen anderen Oldtimer suchen.

Der Wagen hat also nach seiner ersten bewegten Geschichte als Farm-Wagen in Neuseeland eine sagenhafte Historie als Neuaufbau erlebt und ist nicht nur für einen VW-Sammler ein begehrenswertes Exemplar.

According to various sources, only just under 450-500 vehicles were produced in New Zealand. The vehicle is often referred to as "VW Terra", but that is not the case. Rather, the Terra Mactra is the product of small companies that built small series based on the VW Beetle in the 50s and 60s. The reason for this was the need for robust, cheap farm cars in New Zealand. Around 450 different models in a wide variety of designs were built. The builder is known in the VW scene, but does not want to be named personally or his company. He had this car searched in New Zealand and imported to Germany and then extensively restored and set up for a 1/4 mile race. Simply enter "Terra Mactra" in Google and click on the image search. Then you will see a lot of pictures of the completion and restoration of the vehicle.
In addition, the Terra won the Top20 Vehicle Award at VolksWorld 2014.
The engine used for the 1/4 mile race in combination with the Terra would not have had a chance of approval in Germany, so that an almost new 44 HP industrial engine from Volkswagen has taken its place in the Terra, which makes the car right is nimble and still attracts attention! When children stop playing on the playground and look at you with big eyes and open mouths, I like to answer their questioning eyes with the words "I built it myself out of Lego" and also get a laugh from the parents present. If I only received one euro for every thumb-up eye contact, I would no longer have to pay for gas myself. 😀 Speaking of consumption: the Terra consumes just under 8-10 liters when driving quickly and with the 25 liter racing tank, the range of 250 to 290 km has been put into practice on the OCC Coastal Trophy. Right-hand drive (typical for New Zealand) is fun and very easy to drive. The car has a roll cage (just enter “terra mactra” and “tubes” on Google), sports shock absorbers in connection with the turned down Dresden bars, a sporty “wedge chassis” and a special elbow with sports muffler. You can find the entire structure illustrated in a blog of the builder and you can click through. Simply enter “Terra Mactra” on Google and click your way through the image search.
A height of 1.80 m is the maximum height that I would like to recommend, otherwise the walk will be "humped" afterwards and Quasimodo would face competition in conquering the heart of "Esmeralda".
When getting in and out the driver looks like a giant and when the "stretching and stretching" immediately follows, you have the smile of the audience on you again ... yes, "audience" is the right word here, because the Terra always takes care full attention to vintage car trips and in the normal "cityscape". So if you are introverted and do NOT want to have conversations with complete strangers, you should look for another classic car. 😉
